What is the Research and Resources Database?

The Research and Resources Database is a comprehensive directory or collection of materials on domestic and family violence. In most cases the materials are available online or the Clearinghouse can provide a copy at no cost.

What kinds of materials are in the database?

The database has journal articles, reports, book chapters, newsletter articles, flyers, videos and other types of printed publications. We specialise in Australian reports, articles, strategies, framework and policies as well as selected international materials. Most of the materials have been produced since 2000, but the collection does have some older items. We add items every week. See a list of everything that has been

How do I search the database?

There are several ways to search for materials:

  • You can search the database by keyword, title, author or subject heading.
  • You can also use the advanced search for more options.
  • You can view all the items about a specific topic (or subject heading) by clicking on one of the topics from the browse list.

The search results are displayed in the order of date published.

What if I can’t find what I am looking for?

The Clearinghouse has a Librarian and Information Officer who can help you find a specific publication or research a specific question. Contact us at clearinghouse@unsw.edu.au.

Can I request a copy of an item that is listed in the database?

Yes. Where possible, the Clearinghouse provides links to items available freely online. For items not available online, the Clearinghouse can often provide a single electronic or print copy at no cost including journal articles. However, copyright law does not allow you to make or distribute additional copies. Contact us with your request at clearinghouse@unsw.edu.au or 02 9385 2990.

Can I borrow an item from the Clearinghouse?

The Clearinghouse is unable to loan materials from our collection. For videos, toolkits and other items we can refer you to the original publisher to request or purchase a copy.

Can I suggest an item to add to the database?

Yes. The Clearinghouse is always looking for new materials to add to our collection. We prefer electronic copies, but will accept print copies. Please send only one copy to clearinghouse@unsw.edu.au or Australian Domestic & Family Violence Clearinghouse, UNSW, Sydney, NSW 2052. Items are reviewed and may not necessarily be added.

What if I find a broken link?

Please let us know at clearinghouse@unsw.edu.au.

What makes the database unique?

In addition to including journal articles, we focus on including ‘grey literature’, such as reports and less formal publications that may be hard to find, receive limited publicity or be out of print. Our database is also freely available on the Internet and does not require a subscription.
