This
storybook, "Send Violence Packing", is a visual depiction of the
Clearinghouse research project: 'Staying home/leaving violence'.
The NSW-based
research explored, with twenty-nine women who have left a domestic
violence relationship, how women may be able to leave the violence but
remain safely in their own home, with the violent partner leaving.
The
original cartoons which form the storybook are a creation of MARTA PONTI,
artist at The Deli Women and Children’s Centre.
The Deli is a family support service located in the inner Sydney
suburb of Botany, and one of the services which participated in the
research. The
Clearinghouse extends warm thanks to Marta for her imaginative and
humorous cartoons.
The
cartoon captions are based on the twenty-nine women’s own words and
stories. Findings from the research will be published shortly. A paper
on the research was presented to the Third National Homelessness
Conference in April 2003 and an interim
report published in our Research and Resources database in October
2003. The final report was launched in
December 2004.
The
storybook title, “Send Violence Packing”, was suggested by Kirsten
Busby, Regional Violence Prevention Specialist for the Mid North Coast of
NSW.
The
storybook was conceived and realised by Robyn Edwards, 'Staying
home/leaving violence' researcher, and Dale Gietzelt, Clearinghouse
Information Officer.
